Building a kinetic sculpture

The flower of life is an artistic investigation and mediation into the concept of endless growth in an overly densely populated world.
The kinetic installation comprises of seven pairs of disks that are equipped with fourteen servo motors. The seven pairs are designed to represent different geographic regions, where one disk represents death rates and the other disk represents birth rates of each region. The disks spin in opposite directions to generate a contrast and resemble the difference between life and death. The disks are juxtaposed in front of one another to create the optical illusion of a flower pulsating with life. The installation stands at 7 feet tall, and buzzes with life by making a slow, humming sound.
